(Jackson, Miss.) MCTA outgoing President Frances Smith of Comcast honored Chris McDonald, MCTA Board Member and Comcast Vice President of State Government Affairs, with the President's Award. "Chris was instrumental in moving MCTA forward in 2012 and he gave a signficant amount of his time and energy to the Association," said Frances Smith, MCTA President. "Chris deserves this honor and recognition, and went above and beyond as a MCTA board member. I am glad he is able to receive this award in the company of his friends in the industry."

(JACKSON, MISS.)  MCTA is pleased to announce Bryson Miller as the recipient of the Millie Smith Distinguished Customer Service Award. The award was presented during the annual convention held at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi May 14-15.

Bryson Miller of MetroCast is described by his peers and supervisor as an exceptional customer service representative in all aspects of customer service. Bryson is consistently pleasant, thorough and accurate in all aspects of his position. He leaves a positive impression with all customers and co-workers he comes in contact with. Bryson has received many positive comments from customers praising his willingness to exceed their expectations to bring about a successful resolution. Bryson exhibits a high level of procedural job knowledge and is always willing to train new employees.  He is able to match customer’s interests with MetroCast products and services and takes advantage of every customer contact to maximize his sales.

“Mille Smith was the matriarch of not only MCTA but of our industry in Mississippi,” said Frances Smith, MCTA President. “We are pleased to present this award to such a deserving recipient who goes above and beyond to ensure the highest level of customer service is achieved.”

The Millie Smith Distinguished Customer Service Award is named in honor of MCTA’s Matriarch Millie Smith who was a lifetime member of the Association. She had a stellar customer service career and was one of the founders of MCTA. Millie passed away in December 2012.

The award honors a customer service professional who has direct customer contact and shows superior performance, a dedicated work ethic, teamwork and a consistent effort to go above and beyond.

(JACKSON, MISS.)  MCTA is pleased to announce Richard McCain as the recipient of the Travis Nabors Technical Award. The award was presented during the annual convention held at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi May 14-15.

Richard McCain of MetroCast began his cable career after serving his country as a marine for 8 years. He holds NCTA certifications as a master technician and master fiber technician. His co-workers describe him as an exceptional supervisors who has integrity, outstanding work ethic and is focused on customer service. He demands the best from his team and provides the same as their supervisor. McCain was also one of the first responders to the tornado that destroyed his hometown of Smithville.  McCain served as an integral part of the recovery efforts.

“We are pleased to present this award to Richard McCain of MetroCast,” said Frances Smith, MCTA President. “Our panel of judges and the MCTA Board feel Richard truly embodies the spirit of the Travis Nabors Award. We wish his all the best in his cable career.”

Each year, the Travis Nabors Technical Award is presented to the technician who demonstrates a conscientious and dedicated work ethic and who consistently provides innovative and practical solutions to common technical problems. The award is named in honor and memory of Travis Nabors who was a pioneer of MCTA and began his career as a technician before becoming general manager for The Columbus System.

(JACKSON, MISS.) The Mississippi Cable Telecommunications Association awarded 3 $1000 scholarships to deserving students during its annual Cable Show & Convention held Mary 14-15 at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi.  Students whose parents are employed in the cable industry in Mississippi were eligible to apply. Shandrea Stevenson of Clarksdale; Jacob Boyer of Caledonia and Jeremy Kidd of Enterprise were this year’s recipients. 

Shandrea Danielle Stevenson is the daughter of Sharon Stevenson Campbell of CableOne. She is a recent honor graduate of Clarksdale High School and was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Shandrea's accomplishments include Youth Leadership Clarksdale; Tri-County Alliance Nurse Shadowing Program; Debutante' Society Inductee; Family, Career and Community Leaders of America; a blood drive volunteer and a member of the National Honor Society. She plans to attend Mississippi State University where she will major in Biochemistry with a Pre-Veterinary concentration. She hopes to own her own veterinary clinic.

Jacob Boyer is the son of Mark Boyer of MetroCast.  Jacob currently has a 4.0 GPA and is enrolled at Mississippi State University majoring in Special Education. He is a volunteer with the Push America philanthropy; chairman of the Executive Council of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity and also served as the Community Service Chairman in 2012. Jacob served as the President of the American Cancer Society for 2011-2012 year and was the Treasurer of Invisible Children. As a student at MSU, Jacob established the first annual MSU War of the Roses with the support of all 8 Panhellenic Sororities where the competition benefited people with disabilities. Jacob is also a volunteer with the YMCA Camp Chandler, a camp focused on giving children the best experience possible at camp centered around Christian beliefs.

Jeremy Kidd is the son of Robby Kidd of Comcast. Jeremy is currently enrolled at Jones County Junior College where he is majoring in the Physical Therapy Assistant program. He was a high honors high school graduate; a member of Beta Club, and received numerous high school baseball awards. He is currently a member of the JCJC Bobcats Baseball team where he is the pitcher. He was awarded the honor of Mississippi Association of Community & Junior Colleges Pitcher of the Week. At JCJC, Jeremy is a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He plans to transfer to Meridian Community College to enroll in the Physical Therapy Assistant Program.

Comcast, the nation’s largest Internet service provider, today announced it is increasing the speeds of two of its most popular XFINITY Internet speed plans, Blast! and Extreme 50,  for no additional cost. Customers will enjoymore than twice as fast Internet speeds on multiple devicesallowing them to surf, chat, stream HD movies and TV shows, or game online with double the speed. Also for no additional cost, Comcast in April is increasing the speed of its widely used Performance plan by more than 60 percent .
